pH:
1. Push [pH/ºC] red switch backside of the meter to the pH.
2. Press the [ON] more than 3 seconds turn on the instrument.
3. Insert the probe vertically into the soil,and test as soon as possible.Do not insert the probe too deep to avoid damaging the plant roots.
4. The pH value will be displayed on the LCD display.

Tips:
If do not insert probe into the soil,it will display accurate ambient temperature.

Moisture:

Temperature Measurement:
1. While measuring temperature,soil temperature directly displayed on the LCD simultaneously.
2. Press [ºC/°F OFF] button,set the temperature display to C or°F,and hold the OFF button for 5 seconds to shut down.

Note :
1. Please do not block the light or create shadows for the light sensor;
2. If the soil is too dry or fertile to measure the accurate pH,you can sprinkle some water and measure it again after half an hour.
3. Do not insert into the water to measure!

Why Soil pH Measurement is Important:

Garden soils are often described as acidic (sour) or alkaline (sweet). Unfortunately, the meanings of these terms and their relationship to plant growth are not clearly understood by some gardeners. The relative acidity or alkalinity of soil is indicated by its pH. The pH scale runs from 0 to 14. Any pH reading below 7 is acidic and any pH above 7 is alkaline. A pH of 7 indicates a neutral soil. The pH is important because it influences the availability of essential nutrients. Most horticultural crops will grow satisfactorily in soils having a pH between 6 (slightly acid) and 7.5 (slightly alkaline). Since most garden soils in Iowa are in this range, most gardeners experience few problems with soil pH.
